VICTORY
There is a great Proverbs that wise old Solomon left us that says that “The horse is prepared for battle but victory comes from the Lord.” Indeed we must give the God of heaven the praise for His many victories this summer. First off, let’s update you on some of the prayer concerns in our last update. The battles against the wicked one continues to the bitter end of camp and beyond. Is it any wonder that Satan hates the Gospel being shared and kids (more than twenty) giving their hearts to Jesus. He is still at work in may ways to discourage, sidetrack and beat down anything good so pray for us regularly as we seek to reach kids for Christ. In one tent there was a request for someone to go and talk to a camper. So, the director was available and managed to go and see what the problem was. One boy weeping in the corner of the tent and another getting ready for bed and yet another getting ready for bed is what met him at his arrival. The one getting ready for bed was the one that wanted to talk and without hesitation tears flowed as he shared how he wanted to sincerely know Jesus was in his life. On to our knees we went for the salvation of his soul. The other fella getting ready for bed said “Me too!” and down to his knees he went crying out to God for the forgiveness that He only can give. Meanwhile the weeping one just kept on weeping. After the mini-revival and encouragement was done a talk with the weeper was in order. Hew is on his second or third or fourth foster home and has been placed back with a younger brother that has a few issues mentally and really didn’t want to go back to his new home. We encouraged and prayed for him. He managed to stop weeping and look a little to the Lord for help. He and his brothers are coming to the rocket camp in early October! So, God has been giving the victory in touching lives through your prayers and we Praise Him for this!
There was enough staff that came in for the rest of the summer including a speaker for the last camp. An old counselor named Twistie (Mike Doerksen) gave a week to us and was very much appreciated! God used him greatly.
The General fund did take a hit this year. We had to recruit staff at the last minute and hire some guys and pay them a little more than usual to have some kids come to camp. It was a tough decision but a wise one as some kids became Christians through their time there. Also, we paid a cook and a Wrangler for the first time in years. The Actual working funds are at negative $7,500. If the T-shirt account was replaced then it would actually read in the negative $10,400 range. The Board would like us all to be in prayer about the current situation.
The Bursary fund was a huge success as there was just over twelve thousand dollars that came in to help students get a jump start back at College after the summer. One student has already written a Thank You to the camp as it helped her pay her whole school year off! Praise The Lord. In case you did not know the staff do get about $10 a day for helping out at a camp. So there is your update. Many victories were given and through prayer we shall see more ahead as it is God who fights our battles.
MORE VICTORIES
- Some staff lead their first soul to Christ.
- Hearts were moved as an inmate shared her life story with the teens at teen camp. She has had a hard life and is doing time for man slaughter.
- The lady that shared at teen camp and the prison guard spent the afternoon at camp and rode on a horse. Her time there was indeed a blessing for her.
- Each of the camps were very full of kids.
- No major accidents and medical things.
- A New outhouse was put up to replace an old one.
- Many long awaited clean up jobs were done as well as other jobs from updating buildings to cutting trees to putting a new heater in the barn. The Lord has done great things.
- Preliminary plans are in the works for a kitchen washroom facility.
- Winter camps are filling up, even one for June of next year.
- West Zion Church put a new roof on the kitchen building at camp.
- A New Laptop replaced a broken down one for the registrar.
AND YET MORE VICTORIES
- A girl that had become a new Christian was being encouraged to grow. The night was exciting for her as she was saved! After some talk she wanted to go to bed and she said to her counselor “My little Christian brain is tired!”
- A letter to the camp came in for the use of the campership fund that helps kids come to camp “…God bless the people kind enough to donate money, so that children who could not otherwise afford and attend camp because of lack of money can.”
- This was one of many campers helped this year. Just about $4,000 was spent to help kids come to camp this year. Right now the campership fund is at about negative $350 with two camps to go till Christmas. Once again Pray!
At a recent board meeting the Camp Board voted Dave Trevelyan of Leslieville to be the one in charge of the whole horse program. He will be hiring the wranglers, training them and caring for the horses, pasture, fencing as well as caring for the horses with buying, selling and culling. This part of the letter is from Dave…
An old philosopher once said “The outside of a horse is medicine for the inside of man.” We are at a crossroads with our horse program. The Board has examined the value of the horses in the lives of boys and girls and adults, as well as all aspects of having a horse program and unanimously feel that it is the Lord’s will for CLR to have a horse program. This means we need your help.
- Our herd needs severe culling due to old age, poor teeth, unsafe horses, broken down knees, arthritis etc. We need 10 safe well trained geldings.
- We need GOOD DUST FREE hay—round or square.
- We need people of any age willing to be trained to be wranglers.
- Our pasture needs to be turned up and reseeded.
Will you please pray that the Lord will lay it on the hearts of His people to meet these needs.
- Keep you eyes and ears open for suitable horses. (geldings)
- Help out in any way in any of the above areas of need.
If you can help please phone the Camp at 403-224-3700. God Bless you richly for your faithfulness to Him and His work.”
As you can see this need is immense. The budget line will have in the area for horse purchase $20,000. We may not have to spend a cent if the Lord provides in other ways. So, once again do pray about this with us and if you have any comments or suggestions please let us know.
